The Performing Arts Magnet is an honorary, academic program for students who wish to earn recognition for their commitment to studying the performing arts at Tracy High School.  The instructional program offers an enriched curriculum, preparing students for further study at post-secondary institutions and entry-level career options in the arts and entertainment industry.  Students may choose one of several program majors:
1.             Theatre,
2.             Vocal Music (Choir),
3.             Instrumental Music (Band Concentration),
4.             Instrumental Music (Jazz Concentration),
5.             Instrumental Music (Piano Concentration),
6.              Instrumental Music (Orchestra Concentration),
Each program major leads to specialized certificates and diplomas.  In addition to receiving specialized performing arts instruction, students benefit from frequent performance opportunities, individual performance coaching, student leadership opportunities, special recognition at graduation, and special recognition on their official high school transcripts. Upon completion of your first year’s credit you will receive a membership pin. Upon completion of your second year’s credit you will receive a performing arts Block T.  Upon completion of your Certificate Requirements you will receive an honorary cord for your graduation gown and your official Certificate.  Upon completion of your Diploma Requirements you will receive the second honorary cord for your graduation gown and your official Diploma document.

Application Information
If you live in the Tracy High School attendance area (or will attend Tracy High through another academic program):
Students who attend Tracy High School could enroll in an introductory or advanced level performing arts course.  Students who intend to become members of the magnet should:
1.                  Carefully read and commit to the “Program Requirements” document: www.tracy.k12.ca.us/sites/ths/Performingarts
2.                  Register for a performing arts course.  Any Tracy High School student may register for an introductory performing arts course.  Students may register for advanced performance courses either through an audition or a teacher recommendation.
3.                  Follow the Performing Arts Magnet membership requirements.  Any Tracy High School student who maintains the requirements of our program may apply for membership in the Performing Arts Magnet.
If you live in the West High School or Kimball High School attendance areas:
You could attend Tracy High School’s Performing Arts Magnet with an INTRA-DISTRICT TRANSFER.  First you must be accepted to our program through an application and a competitive audition on Dec. 6th, 2014 at Tracy High School.  Once accepted into our magnet, then you will apply for a transfer through Tracy Unified School District’s Student Services Department.  This is a privilege to receive one of a limited number of transfers granted by our school district.  Students who transfer to Tracy High through our Performing Arts Magnet are making a commitment to this program through all four high school years.
Procedure for applying:
1.                  Read the “Program Requirements” & “Audition Information” documents found on the school’s website: www.tracy.k12.ca.us/sites/ths/Performingarts
2.                  Schedule an audition by Nov. 21, 2014 with the magnet coordinator, Mr. Renner: trenner@tusd.net
3.                  Follow all the steps on the “Audition Information” document and prepare for your live audition.

                The Tracy High School Performing Arts Magnet is a special program for students who possess an interest or talent in the performing arts.  The instructional program offers an enriched curriculum, which prepares students for further study at two-year and four-year colleges and universities, and for entry-level career options in the entertainment industry.  Graduates of the Performing Arts Magnet may pursue careers as musicians, singers, actors, directors, set designers, filmmakers, and teachers.

                 Students choose one of seven program majors: 1) Drama/Theater, 2) Vocal Music, 3) Instrumental Music (Band Concentration), 4) Instrumental Music (Jazz Concentration), 5) Instrumental Music (Piano Concentration), 6) Instrumental Music (Orchestra Concentration), or 7) General Music.  Each program major leads to specialized certificates and diplomas.  Certificate candidates must complete three years of concentrated course work, and diploma candidates must complete five years of concentrated coursework and a senior project.  All certificate and diploma candidates must maintain a 3.0 grade-point average in their program major courses.
