Advancement Via Individual Determination
In the Tracy Unified School District, the AVID program is offered to middle school and high school students. AVID is designed to prepare, support and motivate students in the “middle” to complete courses required for admission into four-year colleges and universities. Students must apply, interview, and meet certain criteria to be accepted into the program. The AVID curriculum provides academic instruction and support to students and is based on rigorous standards and WICOR strategies (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading). The program also creates a positive peer group for students and promotes participation in community activities. We typically do one college tour fieldtrip per year at the middle school level.
