UC Scholarship & Programs  https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/tuition-financial-aid/types-of-aid/grants-and-scholarships.html  Most of the gift aid awarded by UC, the federal government, and the state of California is awarded on the basis of need. Need is determined by the information you provide when you apply for aid, including your expected costs while attending college and your family’s financial resources.  A much smaller portion of gift aid is awarded based on merit – like having a special talent or excelling academically in high school.
