San Joaquin County Science Olympiad Competition
SCIENCE OLYMPIAD.gif
Every year, South West Park Elementary sends two teams to compete in the San Joaquin County Science Olympiad which is held at McNair High School in Stockton. The students meet every week, honing their skills, as they study and actively use Science to collaborate with each other. Hands on experiments, observations, study groups, and researching are all part of this process.  Jennifer Kassel, a SWP Fifth Grade Teacher, has coached us to victory for 4 years now. Scientifically minded parents are recruited to help lead small groups through the rigorous criteria set forth for each event. Over time, the students become experts in their particular events. Ultimately, the team, families, and teachers set out early on a Saturday morning in March. It is an all day affair with scheduled events and has  tailgate type excitement. The day culminates with the Science Bowl competition in the big gym. Excitement spikes as we cheer for our teams. Competition has never been so fun.

Congratulations to our 3rd-5th grade teams who participated in the Science Olympiad on March 23 at McNair High School in Stockton.
