Happy spring! I love this time of the school year when the flowers start blooming, the birds are chirping and the evenings seem longer to enjoy activities after the school day. It is the time of year for children to go outside and enjoy the warmer weather. Children will go for walks, participate in sporting activities, and enjoy family time outdoors.
The month of April also brings administration of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress-or CAASPP. These computer-based tests are aligned to the Common Core State Standards for English and math, which California adopted in 2010 to describe what knowledge and skills students need to be well prepared for college and careers. This is a modern assessment system designed to help shape teaching and learning in the classroom. These tests will be administered during the months of April and May for our third through fifth grade students.
If you are wondering what you can do to help your child, here are some suggestions:
· Encourage your child to try his/her best!
· Help your child get a good night's sleep.
· Help your child with time management.
· Remind your child to read carefully.
Remind your child to check his/her work.
I know our teachers have been working hard to make sure our students are well prepared for this rigorous test.
