Hello Bohn Family—

Now that the 2nd trimester has ended, you all should have a clear picture on how your child is progressing in school.  It is important that you continue to stay in communication with your child’s teacher.  As I have always said, the success of our students depends on a strong relationship between school and home.  Communication is at the center of this. This past Friday, we recognized our students who exemplified the character trait of Fairness.  In the month of March, we will be focusing on the trait of Caring.  Along with our Student of the Month program, we have brought Soul Shoppe to our campus.  Soul Shoppe is a program that helps our children deal with the challenges of growing up and gives them tools to address issues as bullying, conflicts with friends and expressing themselves.  There will be a Soul Shoppe Parent Information Night on March 15th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in our Multiuse Room.  Please look out for more information and mark the date on the calendar.  We hope to see you there.  In 3rd through 5th grades, our teachers and students continue to work hard, working through the California Standards.  Preparation for state testing will begin soon, as our testing window will be a week after we get back from Spring Break.  The one thing that I encourage all of you to do is ask your children, “what did you learn today?”  Having a 5th and 7th grader in my house, I find that simply asking them “how was school today?” isn’t enough.  I find when I ask them about what they learned, they take the time to think and give me a thoughtful answer.  It leads to more involved and interesting conversation, versus the answer I get to “how was your day at school?”, which is always, “fine.”  The more involved we all can get as parents will reinforce the message that school is important, and we want to know how and what they are doing.

As always, should you have any questions or concerns, my door is always open.
